When Hampton Hill Cricket Club’s old club house burned down the club
When Hampton Hill Cricket Club’s old club house burned down the club not only had to rebuild, but the location of the club house was within the Royal Parks therefore gaining access for the rebuilding process to begin was going to be difficult. With herds of deer roaming freely within the boundaries of the park and a historic landscape to protect, getting the job done was going to be a challenge.
The main contractor J W Cannon and Co had to excavate footings, install piles and remove the surplus material from site. It wasn’t one way traffic either as all the deliveries into the site which were associated with the project had to cross the park.
Grassform Group were invited to provide a solution to the problem and after discussion with the club, contractor and the Royal Parks it was agreed that Tufftrak was the answer. The Tufftrak mats were laid across the site to form a 3m wide access road to a turning circle at the contractor’s compound which was able to withstand the rigours of the daily delivery vehicles. With loads of up to 44 tonne the mats were well within their 150 tonnes maximum loading.
Extra care had to be taken regarding the sensitive nature of the site so no tree roots or branches were allowed to be disturbed, the public were also using the site on a daily basis therefore Royal Parks insisted on a strict 5mph speed limit be enforced to protect both deer and public.
